Institute of Chartered Foresters appoints new Executive Director

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Louise Simpson as our new Executive Director.

An enthusiastic advocate of the Institute’s mission and values following three years as Development Director, Louise will succeed Shireen Chambers MBE FICFor in the role and assume responsibilities from the start of July 2022.

The appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process, supported by an external specialist recruitment agency, in which more than 20 applicants were assessed against criteria established by a subcommittee endorsed by the Institute’s Council.

Louise has more than 20 years’ experience in senior positions, with evidence gathering, business and policy development, strategic guidance, campaigning, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, and people management all key aspects of her skillset. A Clore Social Fellow since 2017, Louise has provided advice to key decision-makers and senior influencers across several sectors.

Commenting on Louise’s appointment, President of the Institute, Sharon Durdant-Hollamby FICFor, commented:

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Louise has been appointed as Executive Director. At a time of significant growth for our sector, she will lead a strong team and guide the Institute effectively through our 2022–2026 Strategic Plan. The quality of applicants was high and Louise’s appointment is a real achievement.

I, alongside Vice President Geraint Richards MVO FICFor and the Institute’s Council and staff members, look forward to working alongside Louise as we look to the future and build on the fantastic achievements of her predecessor.”
