Forestry and Woodland Advisory Committees – Recruitment 2023

The Forestry Commission (FC) is looking to appoint individuals with expert knowledge and a passionate interest in forestry and woodlands issues into vacancies available on their Forestry and Woodland Advisory Committees (FWACs).

Appointments will commence from 1 December 2023 for a period of up to three years.

There are a total of nine FWACs across five Forest Services Areas and each Committee normally meets three times a year, including occasional joint meetings of Committees where there are common business priorities and networking benefits. There are occasional ad hoc meetings, dependent on local demand. Members should therefore be in a position to be able to volunteer up to five days per annum.

During this FWAC recruitment round FC are particularly keen to increase diversity and inclusion within their FWAC memberships.

They would like encourage nominations from:

  • Different age profiles especially encouraging younger people to apply
  • people from different ethnic backgrounds and genders to apply

Where applicants cannot commit to serving a three-year term, lesser terms of two years may be considered.

Please note that nominees should be either resident or representative of the region and area of interest they have been nominated for. Furthermore, it should be noted that members are appointed in their personal capacity. FC are not seeking representatives of any organisation to serve on the Committees, but consider that the organisations that we are contacting may be in a position to help identify people who, in a personal capacity, can help the FC deliver its objectives.

The nomination process requires the completion of the Expression of Interest form by either the nominating organisation or the applicant themselves. This should be returned with the candidate’s Curriculum Vitae to commissioners@forestrycommission.gov.uk before the closing date of 15 September 2023. If the expression of interest is returned by the nominating organisation, they should confirm that the candidate has agreed to be nominated. If the form is returned by the candidate, then they should provide confirmation that their application is supported by a nominating organisation if applicable. Applications are preferred by e-mail but will be accepted by post.

More information about the role, code of conduct etc. can be found here.
