Basis: Full time

Scottish Forestry is looking for a Technical Officer to join our team based in either Dumfries or Selkirk.

You’ll need to have a good grasp of complex case work involving grants and regulations, as part of your job will be to help and mentor our woodland and Assistant Woodland Officers.

You’ll also help us to deliver our ambitious targets in your own right and by guiding the Conservancy team.

What you will do

You’ll support the end to end processes associated with Woodland Creation, leading primarily on the processing of complex woodland creation casework. You’ll have responsibility for complex case assessments providing regulatory advice and assistance for reasoned conclusions, complex Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consent responses, complaints and appeals.

You may also support complex work associated with Sustainable Forest Management cases and other regulatory procedures.

Main Duties

  • Provide technical, process assistance and advice to Conservancy teams on all aspects of Woodland Creation casework
  • Work directly on complex woodland creation cases, reviewing and responding to Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Provide direct support and mentoring to Woodland Officers and Assistants on complex woodland creation cases, including EIA
  • Assist, support and sometimes lead on all aspects of woodland creation, from due diligence to grant claims and appeals
  • Provide mentoring and training to less experienced staff on processes and technical aspects
  • Contribute to the wider work of the Conservancy team by at times, leading on the processing of other sensitive or complex regulatory casework e.g., UK Forestry Standard compliance casework, support local training and WO support visits and investigate and respond to any complaints and disputes.

 

Candidates should be Chartered or working towards chartered status.
