Hackney Council Puts Wood First

Hackney Council has become the first English local authority to promote timber construction as part of its planning policy.

The Council recently hosted a Wood First conference for developers, architects and planning officials from other local government bodies to encourage the use of timber as a first choice building material for construction projects. Wood for Good (which campaigns to promote the use of wood in construction) sponsored the event which explored the benefits and restrictions of building with timber as well as defining its place in planning policy both on a local and national basis.
