Early Career Professionals Study Tour 2022 – Our Legacy

Early Career Professionals Study Tour 2022 – Our Legacy
Managing the woodlands of the past and producing the forests of the future

8 June   |   Cyffin, Powys, Wales   |   £50

The Early Career Professionals Study Tour 2022 is the latest outing for this highly popular and successful series of events. It offers young, early-career or career-changing forestry professionals from across the UK the chance to gain knowledge that will benefit both their professional development and day-to-day work lives. Places are limited to 60 delegates so be quick if you want to join us!

Outline

We’ll meet at Cyffin, just south of Llwydiarth (Powys, Wales), and visit Dyfnant Forest, part of the National Forest for Wales.

The day will take us through two sites that will provide a backdrop for many informative discussions. This discussion will be over a broad range of forestry management topics and how professional standards are used to manage forests planted in the past and created woodlands planted today to be fit for the future.

Dominic Driver FICFor CEnv, Head of Land Stewardship at Natural Resources Wales, will open the day followed by a range of excellent speakers from both the public and private sectors. Throughout, we’ll have open discussions on the topics under consideration. This is an opportunity, as professional foresters, to examine the work taking place in Wales and for delegates to contribute their own experiences from across the UK.

Topics we plan to discuss include (but are not limited to): long-term management plans; recreational considerations; site access; liability management; harvesting diseased trees; ground preparation; tree species selection; water management; deer management; infrastructure; PAWS restoration, and other conservation work.
