UPM Announce Sale of Tilhill Forestry to BSW Timber Group

UPM has announced the sale of of Tilhill Forestry Ltd to BSW Timber Group. The company has stressed that the sale “does not have an effect on the employment contracts of the employees of Tilhill Forestry.”

Tilhill Forestry will operate as a subsidiary of BSW Timber Limited with its own operational board. George McRobbie FICFor will remain as Managing Director with Peter Whitfield FICFor and Andy Hudson continuing in their current Directorship roles. The Board will be further strengthened by the addition of Gavin Adkins, Harry Stevens and Richard Scott from BSW.

BSW Timber has seven sawmills in the UK and one in Latvia, production capacity of over 1,000,000m3 of sawn timber per year. Commenting on the buy-out, George McRobbie FICFor, said:

“This is an exciting step in the development of Tilhill Forestry. This change of ownership will allow the company to continue to grow while maintaining the professional standards that forest owners have come to expect from Tilhill.”

Established in 1948 and headquartered in Stirling, Scotland, Tilhill Forestry provides professional forestry management and timber harvesting and marketing services to forestry owners through its nationwide network of offices. 

Kurt Wurster, Vice President, RCP and CE Wood Sourcing at UPM Paper ENA said:

“Despite the sale, our close relationship with Tilhill Forestry continues and the company is fully committed to supply wood and biomass for UPM Caledonian and Shotton mills in the UK.”
