Job description

The opportunities:

  • One year fixed term placement (6 months each with James Jones & Sons and Scottish Woodlands)
  • Two placements available in North and South Scotland
  • The chance to experience the full tree to timber supply chain
  • Build a strong foundation of knowledge in the industry

  • Working in North and South Scotland to experience diverse environments across our beautiful country
  • A blend of formal, structured and experiential learning.

Your role at James Jones & Sons:

  • Spending time in our sawmills to better understand the timber supply chain
  • Working as part of our harvesting team to get first hand experience in round timber production
  • Understanding forest management duties in a couple of private estates
  • Training including forest mensuration and measuring and consolidating this learning in the workplace
  • A short secondment to a large private estate in the area.

Your role at Scottish Woodlands:

  • Working both alongside managers and alone, to carry out woodland inspections, implement surveys and supervise operations
  • Learn to prepare contract documentation and risk assessments
  • Gain invaluable insights into operational budgets, client reporting, forest planning and other regulatory work
  • Looking into business development that help create opportunities in our business.
