Are you passionate about trees and woodlands? Have you a desire to protecting special places and creating amazing woodland experiences whilst helping build sustainable and healthy forests in a World Heritage Site?
If you have experience in designing and delivering woodlands management plans and are familiar with managing woodlands for recreation, commercially or just to ensure that they are sustainably managed for the next generation, then we would love to hear from you.
Our new Woodlands Officer role offers a unique opportunity to work in one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the UK; a designated World Heritage site. You will be part of an experienced and dedicated Property Team managing the 530 hectares of trees and woodlands across the Lake District, with rich and diverse species as well as ancient semi-natural woodland, offering the right candidate the opportunity to bring their own ideas and vision to this special place. You will work across a broad spectrum of services within the Authority, liaising between rangers, strategists and the wider community to bring about positive management of these special assets.
You should have a background in woodland management and a relevant qualification in this field and be able to demonstrate membership of a relevant professional body. You will be experienced at managing and working with a range of stakeholders. You should have an understanding of recreational, economic, environmental and social value of woodlands. It will be useful to have a comprehensive understanding in the management of woodland and the associated legislation surrounding them, along with knowledge of national and regional policies and regulatory environment as they affect woodlands. Working within the Lake District National Park you will need a strong commitment to the concept and importance of protected landscapes.
