Do you have the skills to lead ancient woodland restoration in the Shropshire Hills?
The Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership in partnership with the Woodland Trust have secured funding from the Forestry Commission for a 2½ year project to restore ancient woodlands in the Shropshire Hills, and we are now recruiting the officer to deliver the project. Working as part of the AONB team, you will be the person to engage with woodland owners, providing advice and support and securing their commitment, and you will develop and manage some of the individual woodland restoration schemes. You will target activities of the project using and developing our mapping of high value/potential sites and track progress with necessary data, along with reporting to partners and funders.
Much of the work will be focussed on Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites so you will need to have knowledge and experience across both practical woodland/forest management operations and in conserving the environmental value of ancient woodlands. You will have experience in woodland condition assessments and management planning to support delivery of woodland restoration, as well as in providing technical advice, working to relevant standards and regulations, and in contractor management. You will have the ability to negotiate and build relationships with farmers and woodland managers.
