Job description

This is a unique early career path opportunity to join us and progress from the Tree Surveyor and Technician levels, all the way up to become an Arboricultural Consultant. There will be a strong focus on mentoring by our existing Senior Consultants, backed up by a comprehensive internal and external training program which includes progressing you towards the ultimate aspiration of achieving ICF Chartered status and becoming an AA Registered Consultant.

Our track record proves our commitment to your career development, having supported, mentored, and funded our consultants through professional development opportunities including nine (out of nine) successful applications to become an AA Registered Consultant. We have built a reputation for delivering the best by the best, and the following career structure is a tried and tested approach to maintaining that highest of standards. We have a wide client base and many interesting and exciting projects throughout the UK, and sometimes even further afield! This role does have some capacity for home working, but in the early stages you will be expected to be in the office several days per week (accommodation provided) as you develop your understanding of our work and find your place in our small, but friendly and professional team.

Applications are invited for the Tree Surveyor and Technician positions, with an expectation that you will enthusiastically participate in familiarisation with our office administrative procedures;  supervised site visits to assess trees and collect data for the preparation of reports on tree risk, general management, and development site appraisals;  learning detailed procedures for plan preparation using CAD and QGIS;  and, report writing. This position would suit academically oriented graduates with some experience, but those with practical experience should not be deterred if they have an aspiration to develop their academic credentials.

Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, with an anticipated entry at £25-35,000 per annum. As your skills develop, there will be decreased one-to-one supervision, with opportunities for taking the lead on the full range of projects with reducing oversight and increasing autonomy. The aspiration is to build a portfolio of experience and projects to attain ICF Chartered status and become an AA Registered Consultant. Benefits include normal holiday and pension contributions, travel expenses, an annual £1,000 CPD allowance, Professional membership fees covered, and occasional travel opportunities beyond the UK.

Email a short CV to jeremy@barrell.uk to express an interest and we will contact you to discuss progressing your application.
