Job description

Join a dynamic team supporting one of the UK’s greenest and fastest growing business sectors at the forefront of helping tackle climate change.

About us

The Confederation of Forest Industries (Confor) is the representative body for the forestry and wood processing sector in the UK.

Planting more trees and promoting an increasing use of wood-based products will play an ever more important role in tackling climate change and contributing significantly to a green growth economy. This is a rare opportunity for you to make a difference as a key player in a team at the very forefront of the UK’s ambitions for net zero and supporting growth in a truly green industry.

The forestry and wood processing sector has experienced rapid growth in recent decades not only in the number and variety of jobs available but also its contribution to the economy and in its increasing political significance. Confor has a key role to play in supporting future growth and raising the positive profile of the sector, including through working with governments and their agencies across the UK to provide a supportive policy environment, with targeted grants and partnership working on key industry development matters.

The role

England has a successful and vibrant wood-based bioeconomy that offers real potential for economic growth and an increased contribution towards climate change mitigation. Realising
that potential will require government and industry to work together to address the significant challenges and opportunities laid out in the England Tree Action Plan and helping member
businesses to be successful.

Confor is seeking an ambitious and proactive individual to join a dynamic Confor team to lead on its work in England. Your main role will be to identify and tackle the key issues facing
Confor’s members in England. In doing so, you will work closely with a small team within Confor and with Members. There may also be opportunity to lead on UK-wide issues dependant on your experience and expertise.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have a proven track record of successful delivery. The candidate will also have experience in developing and/or engaging in successful
collaborations and networks. Strong communication skills and an ability to build and maintain relationships with people holding a range of views is important.

Experience in the UK forestry and wood processing industry and/or in land management is essential, and a good knowledge of the UK wood supply chain is desirable. Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is a bonus.
