Job description

If you are passionate about sustainable forestry, possess strong leadership skills and have a proven track record in woodland management we have the job for you!

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Forestry Manager to join our team, based in the Estates Office in Dunecht village.

Dunecht Estates, owned by The Hon Charles Pearson and his son George Pearson, is a diverse rural property business extending over 50,000 acres, covering six separate Estates in Aberdeenshire. Business interests include forestry, farming, field sports, housing, commercial property and tourism.

The woodland operations on the Estates extend over c7,000 acres and consist of commercial conifer stands, shelterbelts, semi-natural woodlands, areas of native broadleaves and roadside hardwoods. The principal areas of commercial forest (c4,600 acres) lie on Dunecht and Raemoir and Campfield Estates.

The Forestry Manager’s areas of responsibility include management plans, timber harvesting, restocking and establishment, woodland creation, grant applications, mapping, record keeping and data management, management of forestry staff, management of contractors, health and safety, compliance, and financial management/budget control.

Good communication and organisation skills are essential and a committed approach to all aspects of the position is required. The successful candidate will preferably hold a degree in Forestry or equivalent, and a Chartered Forester or working towards Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters. A full and current driving licence is a prerequisite.

The Forestry Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive and will join a team of professional and support staff working across the wider Dunecht business.

The position attracts a comprehensive remuneration package including competitive salary, contributory pension, health insurance, company vehicle and housing on the Estates if required.
