FOREST MANAGER

The UK government has committed to a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, resulting in an increasing interest and support for existing forestry and new woodland creation. Due to this, our work programmes have increased significantly and therefore Scottish Woodlands is seeking to engage with enthusiastic professionals, who have a passion for Forest Management and can offer a fresh and visionary way of thinking. As a key member of a high-performing team, operating in a competitive and commercial environment, you will be collaborating with stakeholders, demonstrating excellent communication and organisation skills, together with the ability to identify, analyse and solve technical problems. Experience of working with contractors, project management and managing health & safety are all highly desirable. A Forest Manager role within Scottish Woodlands offers fast paced, varied, and extremely rewarding work, located in Lochgilphead, West Scotland. Our managers will typically work in a flexible and healthy work environment, working for an employer who wants to see them thrive and develop as individuals within the operational team.
The role will involve all aspects of woodland management and new woodland creation. This role may also suit someone looking for a promotion, with several years of proven operational experience in a similar role. Candidates will have been involved with the management of woodland creation, estate management, delivering forest plans as well as supporting others within both the management and harvesting teams.
To be successful in this role, you must be professional, self-motivated and be capable of working on your own and as part of a team. You will have proven operational experience in a similar role where you have been involved with the management of woodland creation, estate management, delivering forest plans as well as supporting others within both the management and harvesting teams. Along with the relevant academic qualifications, you will be highly organised with excellent communication skills, be IT literate and have a sound knowledge of silviculture. This position may also suit someone with an environmental, geography, agricultural or rural surveying background who wish to enter the forestry sector. We are looking for people with professional acumen who are commercially aware and have a sound understanding of the rural sector.
The role offers good opportunity for progression within the business for the right candidate. A current full driving licence is required to undertake the role. Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is desirable.
