Job description

To support their continued growth Penfolds Woodland Management seek an Assistant Forester to join their successful and revered consultancy and contracting practice located in the south-east of England. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role will principally undertake woodland surveys & associated mapping that includes production/volume assessments, attribute & health, and National Forestry Inventory surveys in the Southern England (Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex) and on occasion further afield.

Working across the consultancy & contracting service, the role will support the creation and implementation of woodland management & maintenance plans, ensuring client’s woods are managed efficiently sustainably in line with the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) and UK Woodland Assurance Scheme (UKWAS) standards.

To be shortlisted for an interview for this position, your application and supporting statement will clearly evidence the following attributes, skills, and expertise:

  • Hold a higher qualification i.e., Degree or Higher Diploma in forestry, or related land or environmental management qualification.
  • Practical experience in forestry/woodland/habitat management practices that incudes field work data capture & mapping
  • Passion, enthusiasm for modern, sustainable woodland management
  • That you are self-motivated and can work as part of a team and independently on your own.
  • Competent in the use of IT and GIS mapping
  • That you hold a clean driving licence
