Institute Responds to EFRA Inquiry

The Institute has submitted evidence to a Westminster committee inquiry saying that government needs to address the skills shortage urgently in order to meet the challenges it faces, and not just for planting new trees but to meet objectives across the dual climate and nature crises.

The Environment, Food and Rural & Affairs (EFRA) Committee asked whether the target of 30,000 hectares of planting across the UK annually by 2025 is sufficiently ambitious and realistic. The Institute response focussed on the need for:

  • The right skills and standards in the workforce
  • Sustainable business models and culture change
  • Government to join up its policy interventions
  • The targets and the approach to be based on sound evidence.

If you would like to have your say in this inquiry, please respond here before Sunday 6 December.
