Forestry key for future Net Zero workforce

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) recently published the briefing, A Net Zero workforce, outlining the impact of a transition to Net Zero by 2030, and how the transition will affect workers across a range of sectors. This briefing will inform the UK Government’s Net Zero and Nature Workforce Action Plan that is due to be launched in 2024.

Indicating that the Net Zero transition could create between 135,000 and 725,000 net new jobs in low-carbon sectors, the CCC have highlighted forestry as a key sector for growth. The briefing suggests that up to 39,000 new workers are needed in the UK by 2030 to meet the current planting targets.
