Join us for #MembersHour on 10 October with Dr Gabriel Hemery FICFor CEnv and Dr Alice Broome as they introduce the concept of stewardship science and Forest Lab.
Forest Lab is an application hosted within the Sylva Foundation’s myForest platform that provides technology and tools to help land managers collect and share data to inform environmental science (acting as ‘stewardship scientists’), and in return improve knowledge exchange between scientists and land managers.
Sylva Foundation and Forest Research are working in partnership to deliver Forest Lab with projects exploring wildfire, tree growth, resilience, and IPS, with more in development. myForest users are responsible for about 10% of private woodland area across the UK, therefore collectively are able to represent a wide range of woodland types, and to explore many different issues, at thousands of different locations across the country. The team hope that as a result this will create a unique and powerful tool to capture important information and data about environmental change, and also to help steer science to support forestry practice.
