Future Forestry. What will Wales’ forests look like in 2050?
2017 ICF Wales: Annual Conference & AGM 2017.
This year the Wales Regional Group has chosen an ambitious title for our annual conference. We want to explore what challenges and opportunities are on the horizon over the next few decades for forestry in Wales. To make this possible we are calling in experts from a variety of fields.
To begin with, we look to the agricultural sector to see what is on their horizon, if there are any lessons forestry can learn from argricyulture, and look at the potential for a more joined-up approach after Brexit. This will be followed by looking at future regulations and potential rewards going forward. The morning session will be concluded by addressing what pest and diseases could be high on our agenda in the years to come, followed by a disccusion of which silvicultural systems will be used to manage our forests in 30 years.
In the afternoon session, we will look to the forest nursery sector and to timber merchants for their perspectives on growing the trees for the future, and consider which species and what quality will the market require. The conference will conclude by looking at future investment in forestry in Wales.
