Forestry Facing the Future: Soils & Seasons

Forestry Facing the Future: A 50-Year Horizon Scan

The fourth webinar in this Forestry Facing the Future series will examine and discuss the impact of and sector response to two of the 15 issues outlined in the paper ‘A horizon scan of issues affecting UK forest management within 50 years.

  • Issue 3: Forest management becomes more challenging due to changing seasonal working windows
  • Issue 4: Protecting and enhancing soil microbial ecology becomes a higher priority

As our understanding of the importance of forest soils and their role in resilience and sequestration of carbon grows, we are likely to need to change our management practices. However, the window for operations may be squeezed by extreme weather conditions.

How do we balance the need to work sympathetically whilst maintaining productivity?
