Forestry Facing the Future: A 50-Year Horizon Scan
The fifth webinar in this Forestry Facing the Future series will examine and discuss the impact of this key issue outlined in the paper ‘A horizon scan of issues affecting UK forest management within 50 years.’
- Issue 5: Viruses and viroids emerge as pathogens of increasing importance for trees
The number of plant pests and pathogens arriving in the UK is growing, and viruses are the largest group on the UK Plant Health Risk Register. Yet we know little about this potential risk for trees. This poor understanding threatens the economic and ecological value of trees and leaves the industry exposed.
How do we quickly gain greater understanding of pests and pathogens and apply this knowledge to forestry?
