2019 ICF South East England: AGM & RFS Event
This is a joint regional group meeting with the Royal Forestry Society’s Southern Division, looking at the international importance of timber production for sites of special scientific interest (SSSI) and special areas of conservation (SAC). You will have the opportunity to discuss innovative harvesting by exploring new thinking on sustainable harvesting. Don’t miss this chance to talk about what can be learned from past sites, the future of climate change, and the type of planting required for a sustainable future.
The Institute and the Royal Forestry Society are pleased to offer their members the opportunity to experience first-hand the broad range of silvicultural practices being implemented across the Windsor estate. Transport will be provided to take attendees to a variety of sites where you will have the opportunity to discuss the benefits and disadvantages of the practices under consideration with representatives from the Crown Estate Windsor.
Visits will include:
- South Forest. Holly Walk / Tower Ride Crossing.
- Crowthorne Woods, Hutt Hill, where we will view the restocking after the Swinley Forest fire (2011). You will also have the opportunity to discuss wildfire management, post-fire site clearance, ground prep, alternative species choice/mix, and special protection areas.
- Manor Hill, where we will view and discuss p.2004 SP/POK in a row mixture, recently respaced formative pruning.
