English Public Ready to Fight for Forests

English Public Ready to Fight for Forests

Our Forests together with 38 Degrees have released the results of a survey which suggests that just under 90% of the English public are ready campaign against the Government in the event that concerns about England’s public woods and forests are not alleviated.

In response to the survey, founding member of Save Our Woods and Our Forests, Hen Anderson, said:

“This survey confirms what we know directly from our grassroots networks – that, in communities across the country, people are gearing up again to challenge the Government and put pressure on their MPs if needs be.”

Our Forests has released the results with the backing of a variety of stakeholders who have signed up to a public statement which reads:

“We believe that public ownership of the Public Forest Estate must be secured, through new legislation. The rich cultural, historical and natural diversity of our forests and woods, and full access to them, is best protected under the continued stewardship of the Forestry Commission, fully resourced to sustainably manage and expand our multi-purpose Public Forest Estate now and in the future.”

You can find a copy of the survey on the Save Our Woods website. The survey comes just days before the Independent Panel on Forestry, of which ICF Executive Director Shireen Chambers FICFor is a member, is due to publish its report and recommendations on the future of the Public Forest Estate, the Forestry Commission and England’s woodland and forestry policy in general.
