The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) has delivered a series of student awards over the summer months, building important connections between the sector and the country’s top young forestry and arboricultural talent. The 2016 ICF Student Awards were distributed at graduations across the country during June and July, recognising academic achievement in ICF-accredited higher education courses.

Winners of the prestigious accolade were presented with a one-year ICF Associate membership subscription. The prize is considered to be a stepping stone to chartered status, with Associate membership of the Institute named as necessary or desirable by many key employers.

2016 Student Award Winners

The 2016 ICF Student Award winners included:

  • Juan Alvarez, BSc (Hons) Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, Myerscough College
  • Dean Bell, FdSc Arboriculture, Plumpton College
  • Sam Huddleston, BSc Forestry, Bangor University
  • Annabel Martin, HND Forestry, Inverness College UHI
  • James Potts, BSc Arboriculture & Tree Management, Pershore College
  • Alexander Wilkinson, BSc (Hons) Forestry, University of Aberdeen

New Forestry and Arboricultural Talent

ICF Executive Director Shireen Chambers FICFor congratulated the student winners on their awards, emphasising the importance of such initiatives for building a connection between young professionals and their sector at an early stage:

“The Institute congratulates all winners of the ICF Student Award 2016. As the professional body for foresters and arboriculturists in the UK, ICF is increasingly working with young professionals to ensure that the sector continues to benefit from new talent. The ICF Student Award is just one of these important initiatives.

“We are very pleased to be welcoming the 2016 ICF Student Award winners as Associate members of the Institute. We hope that they will make the most of the new connections, events, news and resources that are on offer as part of their prize.”

Further ICF Student Awards will be distributed at Harper Adams University and the University of Cumbria in the autumn.
