Tree Felling Underway in Nant yr Arian to Combat P Ramorum

Natural Resources Wales have begun their second phase of tree felling at Nant yr Arian in an effort to tackle the outbreak of Phytophthora ramorum of larch. 20,000 trees, which have become infected with the fungus-like disease, are to be felled.

The popular centre near Aberystwyth will be replanted with a mix of species, including Douglas fir and Western red cedar. The first phase of felling took place in 2013 and to date approximately 12,000 trees have been replanted.

Despite this extensive felling work, NRW will ensure that the visitor centre remains open and the red kites will continue to be fed daily from 2pm at the award-winning site.
