The award was announced at Confor’s third industry dinner on Tuesday 25 February. It recognised Mr Yull’s experience in the forestry sector for more than 50 years, by Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Paul Wheelhouse MSP.

Mr Yull, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, has been instrumental in shaping the industry, having worked both in the UK and abroad. Mr Yull worked with investors to facilitate the planting of large areas of forestry, and later as chair of the industry’s representative body FTA, he challenged successive governments to support the development of what is now a successful industry.

Confor Chief Executive Stuart Goodall, noted Mr Yull’s determination to champion the forestry industry’s cause, saying:

“Len Yull is a fighter and a campaigner. He is a great champion of commercial forestry – articulate and relaxed on stage and in the media.”

Confor’s industry dinner was attended by 60 industry leaders. Paul Wheelhouse MSP spoke about the importance of forestry and wood products in helping meet Scottish Government’s carbon reduction targets, and the actions being taken, in response to advice from Confor, to protect and expand the forestry resource.
