Chartered Consultants

You can find all our Registered Consultants on our searchable database. We also have a list of all members of the Institute.

The ICF Register of Consultants contains the names of tree professionals who specialise in forest, woodland and tree management. They are all Members or Fellows of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and have been vetted for their professionalism, qualifications, and experience. They provide the highest standard of professional advice available in the UK and are bound to ICF's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

Chartered Foresters offer a wide range of general and specialist services which can include preparing management plans for large and small woodlands to health and safety assessments of individual trees. Expertise may include forest economics and business management, urban and community woodland design, valuation of trees and woodlands for purchase or sale, litigation and arbitration. They provide advice in relation to trees and development or subsidence risk assessments and give expert witness testimony for Tree Preservation Orders and other legal proceedings. Some specialise in environmental management while others work in investment advice.

As members of the Institute they are committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Only the named consultant is registered and not the company with which they are associated. The Institute recommends that there should be a clear written agreement or contract between the consultant and the client before any work is undertaken.

The Institute requires that all consultants on the register must hold professional indemnity insurance to a level appropriate to the liabilities that their work generates, and in all cases to a minimum of £500,000 at all times. Although the Institute checks this at the time of inclusion on the register clients should satisfy themselves that appropriate insurance is in place before entering into any contractual agreement.

The Institute gives no warranty, and accepts no liability, in respect of persons named in the Register, beyond their being Corporate Members of the Institute at the time when the Register was complied. Any person or company using the services of a member of the Institute who decides to make a complaint about the member must do so against the individual member or their employer and not against the Institute.
