Shireen Chambers FICFor
Executive & Technical Director
Shireen took up her current role in 2006. She studied forestry and soil science at Bangor University before embarking on a career overseas, working with the Government of the Bahamas to set up a new forestry department in the 1980s. She returned to the UK to work with the Central Scotland Forest and continued as a practitioner in community and urban forestry throughout the UK. Non-executive board appointments have included Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, Forest Research, Forestry Commission’s Regional Advisory Committee for Mid-Scotland (Chair), Edinburgh Green Belt Trust and she was a member of the Independent Panel on Forestry.
Dr Stuart Glen
Member Services Director
Stuart is responsible for the management of membership administration and accreditation procedures, including managing the process to chartership and supporting assessors and applicants. He very much enjoys meeting members and finding out what they want from their membership. Stuart has worked in the third sector for 14 years for a number of charities, including Scottish Wildlife Trust.
Andy started his career as a tree surgeon before moving to Epping Forest District Council as Assistant Arboricultural Officer. In 2008, he joined Islington Council as a Tree Officer, and later progressed to Principal Tree Officer for the London Borough of Islington. Andy has chaired the LTOA’s PR and Communications Group since 2010 and has been involved in Massaria research, working closely with other tree officer groups across the UK.
Allison Lock BA
Events and Publications Manager
Allison has responsibility for the editorial production of ICF’s quarterly members’ magazine, Chartered Forester. She also manages ICF’s national events including conferences and study tours and oversees ICF involvement in partnership events. Allison has communications, marketing and event management skills gained from over 25 years of working in the private sector and with a range of other professional organisations and charities.
Cheryl handles all of the Institute’s financial affairs, including member transactions. She has many years of experience, working in the accounting and finance sector in South Africa before moving to Scotland over 20 years ago. Cheryl spent 17 years heading up the Finance team at The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce before moving to the Institute.
Dr Rob Hawkins
After initially studying Zoology at the University of Bristol, Rob spent several years at an agrochemical company before returning to his studies to carry out his PhD in Microbial Ecology at the University of Reading. He joins us after almost ten years of teaching at an inner city FE college where he taught on a range of science courses heading up the A-level biology programme.
Hester McQueen BA MSc
Marketing & Communications Officer
Hester is responsible for looking after the Institute’s marketing and communications activities. She has gained a wide-range of experience/skills in both traditional and digital marketing from working in London and various locations in the UK. Hester graduated from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, with an MSc International Management & Leadership and BA Marketing Management. She previously worked with leading global companies in the packaging sector and contributed to making the first Spirits Summit (Metropolis International Group) in Edinburgh a huge success.
Ben Summers-McKay BA(Hons) MA
Member Services Administrator
Ben is responsible for the on-going stewardship of member services and provides support to the team to this end. Ben has a Master’s degree in 20th Century Literature from UCL and a First Class degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Westminster. He has worked for several years in Arts Administration in London and Edinburgh, including positions with the National Theatre, Punchdrunk and the Edinburgh Playhouse, and has also worked in Visitor Services at Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.
